GENERAL PHILOSOPHY

The X's and O's in football are fun to think about and play an important role in game planning, but the X's and O's alone will not win a football game. There are other key elements that we believe have great importance to the success of our team. As coaches it is our job to provide motivation, establish discipline, and instill character in our student athletes. We strongly emphasize our Core Values of Team, Hard Work, Truth, and Serving Others. These values strengthen our efforts to shape and mold our players into young men of character. With these attributes in place, each player will have the tools that they need to succeed in school, on the football field, and in life.

As Elmwood Raiders we place a high level of importance on our educational achievement. We acknowledge that our education is an invaluable tool that must be obtained for future endeavors. Our student athletes are expected to place school achievement as a top priority. We expect our players to not only complete their class assignments, but to always strive to reach their full potential as students.

In our pursuit of educational excellence we will complete our Academic Success Sheets throughout the season. These sheets will provide our players with accountability and encouragement to maintain a high level of academic performance throughout the football season.

Parent Information and General Principles

1. Core Values - Team, Hard Work, Truth, Serving Others
2. As Coaches we sincerely care about our players, and we strive to  help them reach their full potential.
3. We believe that there is no I in Team. We are All For One, and One For All.
4. Our goal is to work harder and more efficiently than any other 8th grade team in the State of Arkansas. We value the principle of reaping what we sow.

5. Our players are expected to be leaders in school and on the football field. In order to uphold this expectation any misconduct will be addressed at the Coach's discretion.

6. We believe that positive reinforcement of the performance of your child and our team is always better than negative reinforcement. It is important that our parents help to provide a positive, encouraging environment for our players to thrive in.

7. If your child is unable to attend a practice due to illness, or a doctor's appointment please inform Coach Hattier by email or with a phone message.

8. Football is such a fun, exciting, rewarding sport to be a part of, and we want our players to love the game of football. We want our players to play with excitement, enthusiasm, and passion.

8. End of the Season Football Banquet Committee.

POINTS OF EMPHASIS FOR SAFETY
*** We have access to great trainers at RHS (David Roller, and Jesse Herrington). If for any reason your child needs treatment, or needs to be evaluated please utilize this valuable resource. They can see your child during the morning before school, or after school.

Heat Illness
Rogers coaches want to ensure that no player suffers from any kind of heat illness during summer workouts and fall practice. There are many things that can be done to ward off heat illness.
- Players need to spend as much time outside this summer.
- Players need to attend summer workouts.
- Acclimating to the heat is crucial.
- Eat breakfast before summer workouts / practice - Toast, Oatmeal, Fruit, Gatorade, Water.
- Drink water all day every day. It will be beneficial to give up soft drinks.
- Drink water during workouts and on breaks.
Concussions
- If your child is not feeling right or complains of a constant headache we will have him see Jesse Herrington.
- Concussion Standard with Mercy.
- Roughly a 5 day turn around for a mild concussion.
MRSA
- Please visit  http://www.cdc.gov/MRSA/ groups/advice-for-athletes.html
- Showering every day and maintaining cleanliness is an important step to preventing MRSA.
Other Preventative Measures
- In order to maintain a clean locker room environment we ask that our players take home and wash their practice jerseys, and practice pants every Wednesday of the week.
- Throughout the course of the season we will clean our lockers, pads, and helmets.
- If at all possible we encourage our athletes to purchase ankle braces. This is an injury prone area and wearing ankle braces will significantly reduce the chance of injury.
- Eat healthy food throughout the day, and drink water throughout the day.
Your child will burn a lot of calories throughout the course of the season, and it is important to replenish those calories with healthy food sources. This allows your child to play at a high level throughout the season.
