GENERAL PHILOSOPHY

The X's and O's in football are fun to think about and play an important role in game planning, but the X's and O's alone will not win a football game. There are other key elements that we believe have great importance to the success of our team. As coaches it is our job to provide motivation, establish discipline, and instill character in our student athletes. We strongly emphasize our Core Values of Team, Hard Work, Truth, and Serving Others. These values strengthen our efforts to shape and mold our players into young men of character. With these attributes in place, each player will have the tools that they need to succeed in school, on the football field, and in life.

As Elmwood Raiders we place a high level of importance on our educational achievement. We acknowledge that our education is an invaluable tool that must be obtained for future endeavors. Our student athletes are expected to place school achievement as a top priority. We expect our players to not only complete their class assignments, but to always strive to reach their full potential as students.

In our pursuit of educational excellence we will complete our Academic Success Sheets throughout the season. These sheets will provide our players with accountability and encouragement to maintain a high level of academic performance throughout the football season.

Parent Information and General Principles

1. Core Values - Team, Hard Work, Truth, Serving Others
2. As Coaches we sincerely care about our players, and we strive to  help them reach their full potential.
3. We believe that there is no I in Team. We are All For One, and One For All.
4. Our goal is to work harder and more efficiently than any other 8th grade team in the State of Arkansas. We value the principle of reaping what we sow.

5. Our players are expected to be leaders in school and on the football field. In order to uphold this expectation any misconduct will be addressed at the Coach's discretion.

6. We believe that positive reinforcement of the performance of your child and our team is always better than negative reinforcement. It is important that our parents help to provide a positive, encouraging environment for our players to thrive in.

7. If your child is unable to attend a practice due to illness, or a doctor's appointment please inform Coach Hattier by email or with a phone message.

8. Football is such a fun, exciting, rewarding sport to be a part of, and we want our players to love the game of football. We want our players to play with excitement, enthusiasm, and passion.

PLAYER EXPECTATIONS
1. We expect our student athletes to be leaders in the school, and on the football field. This includes respecting Teachers, Coaches, Administration, and Parents. This also includes giving 100% of our efforts in the classroom in order to be the very best student that you can be. Academic Success Sheets must be completed throughout the football season.

2. We believe that there is no I in Team. We are All For One, and One For All. Always put the Team before yourself.

3. Our players are expected to be leaders in school and on the football field. In order to uphold this expectation any misconduct will be addressed at the Coach's discretion.  Represent your Team with Class and Character.

4. Our goal is to work harder and more efficiently than any other 8th grade team in the State of Arkansas. We value the principle of reaping what we sow.
Always play with 100% of your energy, devotion, and focus. It is extremely important that you attend football practice every day. This is vital to the success of our Team!

5. Cursing or foul language is unacceptable. We will always use appropriate language.

6. Our players are expected to maintain a well groomed haircut.

7. No earrings are allowed in the school or on the football field.

8. Maintain a clean locker room.

9. Always take care of the equipment that we issue to you. Do not lose or damage this equipment as it is costly to replace. It is the responsibility of the player to replace any issued item that is damaged or lost.

10. Be on time to all classes and practices.

11. Pay attention to Coaches and follow directions. Be alert and aware of what is going on.

12. No walking or sitting on the practice field. Have a sense of urgency.

Great Opportunities for Parent Involvement
***We need help in the following areas. We are grateful for any assistance that you can provide. Please contact Coach Hattier, or Coach Tebbenkamp if you would like to serve in any of these areas.
1. Concession Stand Workers at Home Games, and Our Scrimmage Jamboree on August 18th.

2. Chain Crew

3. Gate Workers

4. Help with picking up our Chick Fil A dinners before our games.

5. Score keepers.

6. Video Camera Workers

7. I always try to have snacks in the locker room for our players as they transition from the classroom to the football practice field in order to be re energized and fueled for practice. In the pursuit of this it is always helpful to have parents volunteer to bring snacks throughout the season.

8. End of the Season Football Banquet Committee.

POINTS OF EMPHASIS FOR SAFETY
*** We have access to great trainers at RHS (David Roller, and Jesse Herrington). If for any reason your child needs treatment, or needs to be evaluated please utilize this valuable resource. They can see your child during the morning before school, or after school.

Heat Illness
Rogers coaches want to ensure that no player suffers from any kind of heat illness during summer workouts and fall practice. There are many things that can be done to ward off heat illness.
- Players need to spend as much time outside this summer.
- Players need to attend summer workouts.
- Acclimating to the heat is crucial.
- Eat breakfast before summer workouts / practice - Toast, Oatmeal, Fruit, Gatorade, Water.
- Drink water all day every day. It will be beneficial to give up soft drinks.
- Drink water during workouts and on breaks.
Concussions
- If your child is not feeling right or complains of a constant headache we will have him see Jesse Herrington.
- Concussion Standard with Mercy.
- Roughly a 5 day turn around for a mild concussion.
MRSA
- Please visit  http://www.cdc.gov/MRSA/ groups/advice-for-athletes.html
- Showering every day and maintaining cleanliness is an important step to preventing MRSA.
Other Preventative Measures
- In order to maintain a clean locker room environment we ask that our players take home and wash their practice jerseys, and practice pants every Wednesday of the week.
- Throughout the course of the season we will clean our lockers, pads, and helmets.
- If at all possible we encourage our athletes to purchase ankle braces. This is an injury prone area and wearing ankle braces will significantly reduce the chance of injury.
- Eat healthy food throughout the day, and drink water throughout the day.
Your child will burn a lot of calories throughout the course of the season, and it is important to replenish those calories with healthy food sources. This allows your child to play at a high level throughout the season.

Elmwood Raider Football Flexbone Camp Schedule

Hello to all, here is our schedule for our Team Flexbone Camp on Thursday Friday, and Saturday. This is going to be an outstanding time as we have fun and learn the finer details of our offense from some of the best instructors  in the nation! I have also included our list of Flexbone Camp commitments. We have spent money for this camp for our players to attend at no cost so it is important for our players who are on the commitment list to attend in order to take full advantage of this opportunity that we have provided. If a player is on the commitment list and they do not attend then we have simply wasted the money that has already been spent for that player to attend.     It will be a full schedule so eating good, nutrient dense foods and drinking plenty of water throughout the day will definitely be a plus. For lunch I will have plenty of sandwich making items for the players and snacks, etc. If you would like for your child to bring their own lunch and snacks that would be fine as well. We will have plenty of breaks and shade in the indoor practice facility. We will have several water breaks to keep our players hydrated as well.    I definitely understand that some of our players also have basketball on Thursday from 10 – 12:30. No problem, and we will definitely work around that. A good alternative for those athletes who also play basketball would be to attend the Flexbone Camp from 8 – 9:30 on Thursday, and then arrive back at 12:45 or 1:00 and finish our team time. It will be done at 1:30 on Thursday so it shouldn't be too rough on the basketball players. Thank you for all of your valuable support!!!! Go Raiders!!!!! Flex Bone Camp Schedule Day 1 9:00-45 – OL 9:45-10:00 - WR/Slots 10:00-45 - WR/Slots/QB/FB 10:45-11:15 – Team 11:15 – Break and Eat 11:45 – Film 12:15 – OL to field 1:00 – All Skills 1:45 – Team 2:30 – Finish Day 2 8:00-45 – OL 8:45-9:00 - WR/Slots 9:00-45 - WR/Slots/QB/FB 9:45-10:15 – Team 10:15 – Break and Eat 10:45 – Film 11:15 – OL to field 12:00 – All Skills 12:45 – Team 1:30 – Finish Day 3 8:00-45 – OL 8:45-9:00 - WR/Slots 9:00-45 - WR/Slots/QB/FB 9:45-10:15 – Team 10:15 – Break and Eat 10:45 – Film 11:15 – OL to field 12:00 – All Skills 12:45 – Team 1:30 – Finish

If your athlete does have ankle braces please remind him to wear them during our camps, practices, and 7 on 7 games. This is a great preventative measure to avoid injury to the ankles. If you would like to purchase ankle braces Academy Sports, and Best Sports have a good selection.
